Early literacy instruction focuses on developing the
pre-reading and reading skills of your child. These skills
are concentrated into five areas:

phonemic awareness (the ability to hear the individual sounds that make up words)

phonics (letter and word knowledge)

fluency (accurate and effortless recognition of letters, sounds, and words; reading with appropriate expression and pacing)
